By Abdulai Jollah, Founder and President of Borderline Pictures
As a member of the African diaspora, I have experienced firsthand many of the complex challenges diaspora members face daily. These challenges range from fitting into a new social domain to building a business, raising a family, making our voices heard, and staying connected and contributing back home.
The overarching mission of my company, Borderline Pictures, is to create positive change in the world by leveraging the power of multimedia in the digital age. At Borderline we bring together motivated and talented people to create entertaining, informative and inspirational videos. One of our major ongoing projects is the mini documentary series “Africa: Inside/Out” which highlights the challenges and opportunities facing Africa, Africans, and the African Diaspora. We also work extensively with individual diaspora members and organizations. We enjoy helping them promote their projects and businesses via videos and social media, and amplifying their voices through our various content productions, such as our weekly online talk show Off Center with Abdulai Jalloh.
Some of the diaspora clients we have had the pleasure of working with include:
- Elizabeth Patterson (Ghana diaspora), Founder of Girls Education Initiative of Ghana
- Mahen Bonnetti (Sierra Leone diaspora), Founder of the New York African Film Festival
- Akin Akinsanya (Nigeria diaspora), Founder of the New York African Restaurant Week
- Tony Poenou (Togo diaspora), Founder of AfriStack
- The Africa Society in DC: Bridging the Gaps
Working with diaspora members from across Africa has shown us how we can work together to create strong communities here and back home. We are excited to join the International diaspora Engagement Alliance and look forward to opportunities for collaboration!
