The Afghan Arts and Culture Festival, a family friendly festival that celebrates Afghanistan’s rich culture and traditions, is the largest Afghan-American event in the DC metropolitan area. This year’s Festival took place on October 12th at Gateway Park in Rosslyn, VA during Global Diaspora Week.
Afghan Education for a Better Tomorrow (501c3) organizes the festival to serve as a platform to preserve, promote and increase knowledge of the Afghan culture and traditions within the general public.
Free and open to the public, it provides an opportunity for cultural exchange, to showcase ethnic and cultural diversity, and allows the Afghan diaspora to share the richness of Afghan culture that is often not shared by the international media.
The Festival also aims to increase advocacy within the DC metropolitan area towards the sustainability effort in Afghanistan. The festival included cultural dance performances, musical performances, an Afghan bazaar with dozens of vendors, Afghan food, art displays, children’s activities and crafts, nomad tent, face-painting, youth pageant, and much more.
